Project Overview

Shift Apartments on 1501 Island Ave is a striking 21-story, ~631,000 sq. ft. mixed-use development that occupies an entire city block in San Diego’s vibrant East Village. The project includes 368 residential units ranging from studios to two-bedrooms, along with approximately 19,000 sq. ft. of retail space that activates the street level. Residents enjoy extensive communal amenities such as a rooftop deck with pool and sky lounge, an art-walk courtyard, dog park, co-working lounges, fitness and boxing studios, and social spaces like BBQ terraces, fire pits, cafés, and a dry-cleaning service—creating a dynamic urban community that blends lifestyle, convenience, and connectivity. ELEN Consulting delivered electrical, emergency generator, and telecommunication design services and LEED assistance for Shift Apartments. These systems were designed to enhance comfort and security, keep essential services running without interruption, and reduce the building’s long-term environmental footprint.
