Child Development Center at Twentynine Palms

Project Overview

The Child Development Center (CDC) at the USMC base in Twentynine Palms provides child care and early education for military families, featuring classrooms, activity rooms, a central courtyard, creative studio spaces, and administrative areas. The facility is designed to protect children from the harsh desert environment while providing views of the surrounding desert and mountains, supporting both learning and play. ELEN Consulting provided electrical and lighting design services, delivering reliable power distribution, efficient lighting, and integration with the facility’s photovoltaic systems to support its Net-Zero energy performance. This project was the Navy’s first Net–Zero facility; generating as much renewable electrical energy from its artfully-designed photovoltaic ‘tree structures’ as it consumes over the course of a year from both natural gas and electricity.
